Jeongdae Lee Conductor
About Me.

A recipient of the Gold Award for his appearance with the Shinmyung Wind Orchestra at the 44th Korea National Brasswind Competition in 2019, JEONGDAE LEE has a varied musical background including roles as a music educator, music theorist and conductor. His career began as a music teacher and he was a faculty member teaching music education and music theory at Gyeongsang National University and Kyungpook National University. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor at Keimyung University in South Korea. Lee is the main author of general music textbooks used in Korean primary and secondary schools. As music theorist, his thesis on Chopin’s art songs was published in the Journal of Korean Society of Western Music Theory. He is a founding music director of Daegu Edubiz Orchestra, a civic orchestra comprised of music teachers and professionals in various occupations.
Lee studied with Sung Kwak, former music director of Daegu Symphony Orchestra, and Prof. Yoonhak Baek at Yeungnam University, where he worked as assistant conductor in the opera Cavalleria Rusticana and Gianni Schicchi. Lee studied orchestra conducting in the Extension Program of the Juilliard School studying with Mark Shapiro, and holds Master’s degree in Conducting studying with Mark Powell at the Aaron Copland School of Queens College.
Lee was invited as a guest cunductor to conduct the 2022 season's program of NCO(New Conductors Orchestra) in New York, where he made his New York debut conducting the Schumann's Symphony No.3. He is currently the conductor of QC New Music Ensemble, where he oftenly primiered new composer's contemporaries in New York. He is also founding music director of Queens Camerata in New York, which is a chamber orchestra composed of young talented musicians in New York. In addition, he served as an assistant conductor of the Queens College Orchestra and the Queens College Wind Orchestra, and currently serves as the conductor of the Daegu Kyowon Orchestra.
He studied conducting at various conducting workshop in the United States and Europe. In particular, he was selected as a fellow conductor in the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra(BCO) Conducting Workshop with Markand Thakar, Music Director of the BCO, and a student of maestro Celibidache.
2019년 제44회 대한민국 관악경연대회에서 신명윈드오케스트라와 함께한 연주로 금상을 수상한 이정대 지휘자는 음악 교육자, 음악 이론가, 오케스트라 지휘자 등의 다양한 음악적 이력을 가지고 있다. 그의 음악 경력은 음악 교사로 시작되었으며, 이후 경상국립대학교와 경북대학교에서 음악교육 및 음악이론을 가르치는 교수로 재직하였다. 현재는 계명대학교에서 겸임교수로 활동하고 있다. 그는 한국의 초·중등학교에서 사용되는 일반 음악 교과서의 대표 저자이기도 하며, 음악 이론가로서, 쇼팽의 예술가곡에 관한 그의 논문은 『서양음악이론학회지』에 게재되었다.
그는 대구시립교향악단의 전 음악감독인 곽승, 그리고 영남대학교의 백윤학 교수에게 사사하였으며, 영남대학교 재학 중 오페라 『카발레리아 루스티카나』와 『잔니 스키키』에서 부지휘자로 활동하였다. 이후 줄리어드 음대의 엑스텐션 프로그램에서 마크 샤피로(Mark Shapiro)에게 지휘를 수학하였고, 퀸즈칼리지 아론 코플런드 음악원에서는 마크 파월(Mark Powell) 교수에게 사사하며 지휘 전공으로 석사 학위를 취득하였다.
2022년 그는 뉴욕 New Conductor's Orchestra(NCO)의 시즌 프로그램에 객원지휘자로 초청되어 슈만 교향곡 제3번을 지휘하며 뉴욕에서 데뷔 무대를 가졌다. 또한 뉴욕 거주당시 뉴욕의 QC New Music Ensemble의 지휘자로서, 현대 작곡가들의 신작을 자주 초연하였다. 그는 또한 뉴욕의 젊고 재능 있는 연주자들로 구성된 실내악단인 Queens Camerata of New York의 창단 음악감독이기도 하다. 이 외에도 그는 퀸즈칼리지 오케스트라 및 퀸즈칼리지 윈드 오케스트라의 부지휘자로 활동하였으며, 현재는 대구교원오케스트라의 지휘자로 재직 중이다.
그는 미국과 유럽에서 다양한 지휘 워크숍에 참가하며 지휘를 심화 연구해왔다. 특히, 볼티모어 체임버 오케스트라(BCO) 지휘 워크숍에 펠로우 지휘자로 선발되어, 마에스트로 첼리비다케의 제자이자 BCO의 음악감독인 마칸드 타카르(Markand Thakar)에게 사사하였다.
